Regional disparities persisted – Hamburg topped at €4 768 while Mecklenburg‑Vorpommern was €3 497 – and gaps by qualification and age were notable (e.g., workers without a certificate earned €3 133 versus academics €6 146). Insurance and banking sectors still pay above the national average, though their growth lagged slightly and gender‑pay gaps were larger there. A study by the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) showed occupational mobility in Germany increased markedly between 2013 and 2024, with the share of workers changing jobs within a year rising 13 percentage points overall (men +16 pts, women +10 pts). Mobility gains were strongest among low‑wage men and middle‑wage women, indicating a broader shift in the labour market despite a temporary slowdown during the COVID‑19 pandemic.
