Germany reports rise in Islamophobic crimes
German security authorities reported a rise in Islamophobic crimes during the first half of 2026. Between January and June, 231 crimes targeting Islam or Muslims were recorded.
Of these incidents, 194 were classified as politically motivated crime originating from the right-wing spectrum. The breakdown of offenses includes 16 acts of violence, all of which were identified as bodily harm, 89 cases of incitement to hatred, and 13 instances of property damage. Additionally, authorities noted 11 cases of coercion or threats and 11 instances involving the use of symbols from unconstitutional organizations.
While 127 suspects were identified during the investigation period, no arrests have been made. The data was released by the federal government in response to a parliamentary inquiry from the Green Party.
