Germany seeks leadership in industrial AI through manufacturing data

CDU politician Katherina Reiche suggests that Germany and Europe can secure a leading international role by focusing on industrial artificial intelligence rather than competing in the global race for large language models. While general-purpose chatbots focus on human language, industrial AI aims to make machines, factories, and production processes more autonomous and efficient.

Reiche emphasizes that Germany's competitive advantage lies in its high depth of manufacturing and the vast amount of complex industrial data generated during production. By using AI to extract value from unstructured process data, the country can enhance its manufacturing intelligence. She noted that the European AI Act provides a necessary regulatory framework for this development and mentioned that the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) is committed to supporting these technological advancements.
