Germany seeks U.S. approval to manufacture PAC-3 MSE interceptors

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius is urging U.S. decision-makers to authorize the production of PAC-3 MSE interceptors on German soil. The proposal aims to address critical bottlenecks in the global supply chain for Patriot missile components amid escalating security threats.

Pistorius highlighted a recent agreement with U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, expressing Berlin's readiness to manage the entire value chain, including interceptors and launchers. While MBDA already assembles PAC-2 interceptors in Germany, the more advanced and costly PAC-3 MSE is currently produced by Lockheed Martin.

Germany seeks to leverage existing industrial partnerships, such as the cooperation between Lockheed Martin and Rheinmetall, to facilitate this production. However, the move faces potential hurdles regarding intellectual property, profit margins, and the strategic sensitivity of the technology.
