PAC-3 MSE interceptor deployment and production

Overview

The PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) interceptor is seeing increased integration and production discussions across allied nations. The U.S. Navy has announced plans to integrate these interceptors onto Aegis-equipped guided-missile destroyers, with a goal of achieving initial operational capability by 2028. This integration will utilize hit-to-kill technology to counter tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial systems.

Simultaneously, Germany is seeking U.S. authorization to manufacture PAC-3 MSE interceptors domestically. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has proposed managing the entire value chain to address global supply chain bottlenecks for Patriot missile components. While Germany currently assembles PAC-2 interceptors, the more advanced PAC-3 MSE is presently produced by Lockheed Martin.
