Germany sees increased nectarine demand in August

In Germany, one in six households purchased nectarines during August, according to the consultancy AMI. High temperatures and intense promotional activities by supermarkets and discount retailers drove this increased demand.

Analyst Gabriele Held noted that summer weather in week 33, combined with significant promotional campaigns, stimulated sales. Prices for packaged nectarines ranged between 1.49 and 2.67 euros per kg, while bulk fruit ranged from 1.79 to 3.99 euros per kg. However, a forecasted drop in temperatures and upcoming precipitation is expected to decrease demand as the nectarine season nears its end.

In the Mediterranean region, supply remains sufficient. Late-season varieties from Mediterranean producers are showing larger sizes, leading to a higher proportion of non-packaged fruit in supermarkets. While prices in Spanish and Italian marketing centers remain stable, the increased proportion of larger fruit has caused a slight decrease in quotes for larger-sized products.
