Germany prepares for state elections and various policy changes in September
Germany faces several significant changes and elections in September. In Berlin, 16 and 17-year-olds will be eligible to vote in the state parliament elections for the first time following a constitutional amendment. Meanwhile, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, cultural funding associations are demanding clear financial commitments from political parties ahead of the state elections on September 20.
Other national updates include a phased ban on alcohol consumption at German railway stations, starting with Berlin Hauptbahnhof, Kiel, and Braunschweig. In tax policy, income tax assistance associations can now advise a larger group of people due to the removal of income ceilings. Additionally, new EU-wide consumer labels will be introduced to provide clearer information regarding product warranties and rights.
