Germany solar installations reach 1.688 GW in August 2026
Germany added approximately 1.688 GW of new solar PV capacity in August 2026, according to the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur). This figure represents a decline from the 1.85 GW installed in July 2026 and a significant drop from the 2.04 GW added during the same month in 2025.
Monthly additions included 977.2 MW of ground-mounted installations, 440.3 MW of rooftop solar, and 57.8 MW of balcony or plug-in solar. From January through August 2026, total solar additions reached 11.25 GW, bringing the country's cumulative installed capacity to 129.25 GW.
To meet the national target of 215 GW by 2030, the agency notes that monthly installations must average 1.65 GW. However, the German Solar Association (BSW Solar) has expressed concerns that proposed government changes to the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) and the grid package could increase construction costs and hinder nationwide expansion.
