Germany solar power hits record 12 billion kWh in July

Germany reached a new milestone in renewable energy production, with solar power generating a record 12 billion kWh in a single month in July. According to data from the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E), photovoltaic systems produced more electricity than fossil fuel power plants, which generated approximately 10,500 GWh during the same period.

Renewable energy sources accounted for 71.5 percent of total electricity generation in July. Bavaria remains a leader in the sector, hosting roughly one-quarter of Germany's total installed photovoltaic capacity and leading in performance per unit of area. Experts suggest that Bavaria is on track to meet the national target of 40 GW peak capacity by 2030.

Despite these records, discussions continue regarding the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) and its impact on the economic viability of smaller solar installations. The International Economic Forum for Renewable Energies (IWR) noted that while solar power is a pillar of the German energy supply, planned legislative changes could affect the profitability of small-scale PV systems.
