Germany statutory health insurance costs to rise in 2027

Statutory health insurance in Germany is expected to become more expensive for policyholders starting in January 2027. Following the enactment of the GKV-Beitragssatzstabilisierungsgesetz on July 29, 2026, several changes will take effect.

Key changes include rising co-payments and a reduction in fixed subsidies for dental prosthetics. While the general contribution rate remains at 14.6 percent, individual health insurance funds apply a variable additional contribution.

Notably, since July 30, 2026, health insurance providers are no longer required to personally notify members of increases in these additional contributions. Although the special right of termination remains in effect, policyholders are advised to proactively check their specific insurance rates via their provider or the GKV-Spitzenverband website in December to prepare for the upcoming year.
