Germany supports Indonesia's 100 GW solar energy expansion plan
Germany, through the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), has expressed support for Indonesia's plan to develop up to 100 gigawatts (GW) of solar power capacity. GIZ officials noted that solar energy is a highly viable option for Indonesia from both environmental and economic perspectives.
However, experts highlighted that such large-scale expansion requires a flexible electrical grid capable of managing weather-dependent fluctuations. To address this, GIZ is collaborating with Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to strengthen regulatory frameworks and is working with PT PLN to prepare the national power system for increased solar integration. Additionally, GIZ is promoting small-scale solar solutions, such as solar-powered ice makers, to provide direct community benefits.
