Germany tax revenue projections revised upward for 2027
The German government and various states have revised their tax revenue forecasts upward due to stronger economic activity. The federal government expects approximately 4.1 billion euros more in tax revenue for 2027 than previously estimated, bringing total federal tax revenue for that year to a projected 398.6 billion euros.
Across all levels of government—including federal, state, and municipal—total tax revenue is expected to increase by 10.9 billion euros compared to spring estimates. This growth is projected to push total state-wide tax revenue above the 1 trillion euro threshold in 2027. By 2030, the cumulative increase in tax revenue across all levels is expected to reach 43.4 billion euros compared to May estimates.
Despite these gains, Federal Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil noted that the increased revenue does not create new fiscal maneuvering room. The constitutional debt brake requires the government to reduce borrowing as the economy improves, effectively neutralizing much of the windfall. Consequently, the government must continue fiscal consolidation to maintain future flexibility.
