Germany to Deport Afghan Asylum Seeker Back to Taliban‑Run Afghanistan

German authorities plan to deport 46‑year‑old Afghan national Faridun Tofan to Kabul despite the Taliban’s repressive rule. Tofan, who fled the Taliban four years ago and later settled in Germany, worked and learned German before being detained for breaching residency conditions. His asylum claim was rejected and he holds only a temporary residence permit, leaving him subject to removal. The deportation is scheduled for next week and may be carried out on a charter flight together with convicted individuals.

Human‑rights groups warn of severe risks. Amnesty International’s asylum‑law expert Nina Alizadeh Marandi said, “Vjerojatno će biti prebačen u Afganistan čarter‑letom, zajedno s više osoba osuđenih za kaznena djela.” A left‑wing politician warned that the move “gives legitimacy to the Taliban regime.” The Taliban have recently visited Tofan’s wife and six children in Kabul, heightening fears for his safety.
