Germany to increase Minijob earnings limit to 633 euros in 2027

Starting January 1, 2027, the monthly earnings limit for marginal employment (Minijobs) in Germany will increase to 633 euros. This adjustment is a direct result of the statutory minimum wage rising from 13.90 euros to 14.60 euros per hour.

Since 2022, the Minijob limit has been legally tied to the minimum wage, based on a calculation of a ten-hour work week. While the increase offers more flexibility for students, retirees, and part-time workers to earn extra income without full social security contributions, the benefits vary by individual circumstances.

For those receiving basic income support (Bürgergeld), the impact is limited because additional earnings are subject to specific allowance rules; only a portion of the increase may remain tax-free. However, certain groups, such as students under 25 in vocational training or those in federal voluntary services, may benefit from full exemptions up to the new limit.
