Germany to provide 22 million euros for Colombian biodiversity
The German government will provide up to 22 million euros in non-reimbursable funds to finance ecosystem restoration and biodiversity conservation projects in Colombia. This international cooperation initiative, led by the Colombian Ministry of Environment and the German Development Bank (KfW), will be supplemented by 3.6 million euros in Colombian contributions.
The funding is intended to support between nine and 18 projects, with each receiving between 1 and 2 million euros. These projects will focus on territories where land use is organized around water resources, including indigenous reserves, Afro-descendant community councils, and peasant reserve zones. The goal is to promote forest and biodiversity economies while strengthening ecosystem services.
German Ambassador to Colombia, Martina Klumpp, described Colombia as a highly important partner. The first portion of the funds is expected to be disbursed in the first half of next year, following the approval of a manual establishing the rules for project selection and execution.
