Germany urges pullout of troops from Hormuz mission as Iran tensions rise
SPD deputy chair Siemtje Möller said the situation in Iran is not improving and urged that German soldiers stationed in Djibouti, awaiting a possible deployment to the Strait of Hormuz, be withdrawn. She argued that the German navy’s mine‑hunting ship Fulda and supply vessel Mosel, sent for a potential de‑mining mission, cannot be used without a cease‑fire, an international mandate and Iranian consent.
The United States continues air strikes on Iranian targets, while President Donald Trump complained at the NATO summit in Ankara that allies had not helped enough in the “Iran war.” Israeli officials warned the U.S. that Tehran had recently drafted a plan to assassinate Trump. Despite the attacks, a U.S. official said diplomatic talks with Iran are still ongoing.
