Germany warns of phishing and fake toll‑vignette scams

The German consumer protection agency has issued a warning about a counterfeit e‑mail that pretends to be from Sparkasse. The message claims that customers must confirm registration data via a link within hours or face online‑banking suspension. The email contains numerous spelling errors and an urgent deadline, and the link leads to a fraudulent site that captures login credentials.

Police authorities have also alerted motorists to fake digital‑vignette portals that claim to sell highway and express‑road stickers at half price. These sites mimic official sales pages, target smartphone users, and upon payment provide no valid vignette, resulting in financial loss and the risk of fines during inspections. Both scams rely on urgency, imitation of official branding, and the theft of personal or payment data.

Victims are urged to verify communications directly with the legitimate institutions, avoid clicking unsolicited links, and use security measures on mobile devices to protect against data misuse.
