Germany: WWII bomb found in potato factory

A World War II-era bomb, approximately 40 centimeters long, was discovered at a potato factory in Ankum, located in the Osnabrück district of Lower Saxony. The explosive device traveled through a sorting and washing facility on a conveyor belt after being collected by a potato harvesting machine on a farm. Upon discovery by factory workers, bomb disposal units were called to the scene and successfully detonated the device. The incident necessitated the temporary evacuation of several nearby homes.

In a separate incident in Neukölln, a 100-kilogram aerial bomb was found in a shipping canal. The discovery led to the evacuation of approximately 5,600 households and the establishment of a 500-meter exclusion zone. Authorities successfully neutralized the threat by separating and destroying the detonator, allowing for the lifting of cordons and the return of residents.

Additionally, a 16-year-old was slightly injured in Goch, Lower Rhine, after a bullet found with a metal detector exploded upon being handled. Police have issued warnings to citizens to avoid touching any found ammunition or explosive devices and to contact authorities immediately.
