Germany Accelerates AI Adoption with Government Taskforce, Funding and Regulatory Changes

The Frankfurt Higher Regional Court has launched an internal "KI Talks" series and is testing AI tools such as the anonymisation software "Jano" and a live‑transcription program, citing rising case loads and the need for greater transparency.

The federal government plans a new KI‑Taskforce led by the Ministry for Digital Affairs to coordinate AI initiatives across ministries and address security, foreign‑policy and economic impacts. Concurrently, a draft law would relax environmental obligations for data centres—extending renewable‑energy deadlines, lengthening efficiency‑transition periods and removing the requirement to reuse waste heat—to speed the buildup of AI‑computing capacity.

Small and medium‑sized enterprises can tap BAFA funding (up to €5,600 per project) for consulting on AI visibility and Generative Engine Optimization, while industry groups promote events such as the "ki:connect" conference in Göttingen and free webinars on AI‑driven market analysis.

Separate sector‑specific discussions note growing concerns over data sovereignty in construction, AI‑assisted policing, voice‑bot services, and the shift toward agentic AI that automates whole workflows, stressing the need for robust governance under the EU AI Act.

Microsoft announced a €190 billion AI‑infrastructure investment, including new US data‑centre campuses, underscoring the global scale of the AI push that German policy aims to match.
