Germany's Carsten Schneider confirms electric vehicle subsidies will continue through 2027
German Federal Environment Minister Carsten Schneider has assured that funding for electric and hybrid vehicle purchase premiums remains sufficient despite high demand. Speaking to ‘Auto Motor und Sport’, the SPD politician stated that consumers meeting the eligibility criteria should not worry about the availability of funds heading into the next year.
The government has allocated a total of three billion euros for these subsidies, which is estimated to cover approximately 800,000 vehicles between 2026 and 2029. Schneider promised that the government will provide early notification if it becomes apparent that the available funds are nearing exhaustion to ensure buyers have sufficient planning security.
Regarding potential restrictions on vehicles produced in China, Schneider noted that no short-term changes to the subsidy program are planned. However, the coalition has agreed to introduce European value-added criteria once the federal government has developed regulations that comply with European law.
