Germany's City Tourism Rankings Reveal Most Expensive Sightseeing and Top Old Towns

A study by the travel operator Dertour compared entry fees for popular attractions in the 20 largest German cities. Hamburg emerged as the costliest, with an average sightseeing day costing €20.09 per adult, while Berlin averaged €16.91. Prices for children varied widely, with Düsseldorf and Bochum among the pricier options for families, and Dresden and Munich offering the lowest child rates.

Separately, the portal kurzurlaub.de published a ranking of Germany's most attractive historic city centres. Quedlinburg in Saxony‑Anhalt took first place, while Augsburg’s Altstadt ranked 18th, ahead of Heidelberg. The assessment considered historic architecture, walkability, accommodation, gastronomy and a price basket that includes coffee, cake, beer and a simple meal. Several Bavarian towns, including Regensburg, Bamberg and Rothenburg ob der Tauber, also featured prominently in the top‑30 list.
