German city livability and tourism rankings

In late July, a Deutsche Bank study highlighted Luxembourg City as the world’s most livable city and presented a ranking of Germany’s most attractive historic city centres, with Quedlinburg in Saxony‑Anhalt taking the top spot, followed by Regensburg, Bamberg and Augsburg.

A few days later, a Dertour analysis of sightseeing costs in Germany’s 20 largest cities showed Hamburg as the most expensive day for tourists, while Berlin was cheaper. The same period saw the portal kurzurlaub.de repeat its historic‑centre ranking, again placing Quedlinburg first and listing Augsburg’s Altstadt at 18th, with other Bavarian towns such as Regensburg, Bamberg and Rothenburg ob der Tauber featuring prominently. The two snapshots together trace a developing picture of German urban attractiveness, combining overall livability, historic charm and the cost of tourism experiences.
