Germany's Commercial Vehicle Market Shifts to Hybrid and Electric Models

Chinese automaker BYD has launched a large‑scale offer for German taxi operators, providing the Seal 6 DM‑i Touring plug‑in hybrid with a 37 % discount – about €27,000 net including a taxi package – and partnering with four conversion firms to retrofit vehicles formerly built by Mercedes. The move follows Mercedes’ decision to stop supplying factory‑built taxis, leaving a gap that BYD aims to fill with up to 100 ready‑to‑deliver units.

Mercedes‑Benz Trucks has delivered three eActros 400 battery‑electric dump trucks equipped with an integrated mechanical PTO to the waste‑management company AVG Köln. The vehicles will be used in the “BELLA” project to transport waste containers emissions‑free and are supported by a new 3,000 m² charging park powered by the operator’s own waste‑incineration plant.
