Germany's Cycling Push: Nationwide Survey Targets Youth and Bid for 2029 Tour de France Grand Départ

From 1 September to 30 November 2026, the ADFC will run its twelfth Fahrradklima‑Test, the largest nationwide survey of cyclists in Germany. For the first time, a dedicated questionnaire will gather the views of children and teenagers on bike‑friendly infrastructure, road safety and enjoyment. Participants’ feedback will be sent to local politicians to shape future cycling policies.

At the same time, German organisers are lobbying for Berlin to host the Grand Départ of the 2029 Tour de France. Tour director Christian Prudhomme said, “Natürlich gibt es diese Möglichkeit, und ich hoffe, dass wir bald zum Abschluss kommen,” while campaign leader Andreas Prokop added, “Wir sind gut dabei.” The bid aims to link the race’s start to the 40th anniversary of the peaceful revolution in the former GDR and to showcase Germany’s growing cycling culture.
