Germany's Deutschlandticket price set to rise by €3.40 in 2027

From 2027 the nationwide public‑transport subscription known as the Deutschlandticket will increase by €3.40 per month, bringing the regular price to €66.40. The hike is based on a new price index adopted by the Conference of Transport Ministers, which factors in staff costs, energy prices and other operational expenses. Federal and state governments plan to publish the final 2027 price by 30 September.

For recipients of basic‑income benefits, a uniform discount does not exist. Local authorities and transport associations may offer reduced rates, but the amount varies by region. The Rhein‑Ruhr transport association (VRR) lists a “DeutschlandTicket Sozial” at €53, while the city of Freiburg provides a social price of €38. Other municipalities have different schemes or no discount at all, leaving low‑income passengers to check with their local offices for eligibility.
