Germany's Hattersheim, Mannheim and Dortmund Win TÜV New Mobility City Awards

On 10 June 2026 the TÜV Association presented its inaugural New Mobility City prize to three German cities – Hattersheim am Main, Mannheim and Dortmund – for pioneering safe, sustainable and integrated transport solutions.

Hattersheim was honoured in the regional‑city category for a holistic approach that puts citizens at the centre of traffic planning. The city has expanded cyclist routes, added pedestrian crossing aids, established widespread 30‑km/h zones and uses digital tools and data‑driven measures to improve road safety.

Mannheim received the metropolitan award for its "Mobility Masterplan 2035+", which links mobility planning with climate adaptation, social inclusion and urban design. Highlights include school streets, de‑sealing and greening of public spaces, an expanded network of bike lanes and rapid‑cycle paths, as well as innovative technologies such as Scan‑Cars for parking surveillance and person‑shuttle services that complement public transport.

Dortmund earned a special "Mobility with Heart" prize for large‑city initiatives that combine traffic safety with quality‑of‑life improvements, though specific projects were not detailed in the release.
