Red meat linked to higher pancreatic cancer risk, study finds

A meta‑analysis led by the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology at Shenzhen University Medical School examined the relationship between meat consumption and pancreatic cancer. The review combined data from 16 international studies, covering nearly two million participants and 8,856 pancreatic cancer cases.

The analysis found that individuals with the highest intake of red meat had a 16 % higher relative risk of developing pancreatic cancer compared with those consuming the least. A dose‑response relationship was observed, with each additional 100 g of red meat per day increasing risk by about 10 %. No statistically significant association was identified for processed meat consumption. The findings were published in the journal Frontiers in Nutrition.
