Germany’s offshore wind capacity tops 10 GW

Germany’s offshore wind farms now comprise 1,764 turbines with a combined installed capacity of about 10.8 GW, crossing the 10‑GW milestone for the first time. The Federal Offshore Wind Energy Association reported that, as of June 30, the operational capacity reached this threshold, while 22 turbines (323 MW) are already built but not yet running, and investment decisions have been finalized for projects totalling 2.6 GW, with further approvals expected for up to 17.5 GW of additional projects.

Industry forecasts expect Germany’s offshore wind capacity to reach 30 GW by 2032. In 2025, the offshore fleet generated roughly 26.1 TWh of electricity – enough to meet the annual power demand of about 8.7 million households. Renewable sources supplied a record 58 % of Germany’s electricity in the first half of the year, driven largely by a 28.3 % increase in offshore wind output, reinforcing the country’s shift away from imported fossil fuels.
