Spain's PP to summon ex-PM Zapatero to Senate over SEPI probe

The Partido Popular announced it will call former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero to appear before the Senate’s commission investigating the State Industrial Participation Company (SEPI). No specific date has been set, but the party indicated the summons will occur "when convenient" based on investigative progress. Zapatero previously testified before the "Koldo" commission, where the PP alleges he lied about jewelry found in his former office; he is now under indictment for serious offences.

PP spokesperson Alicia García said Zapatero must answer both the judge and the Spanish public. Zapatero’s former secretary, Gertrudis Alcázar, has declined to testify, citing legal advice to protect her fundamental rights. The PP also plans to summon other officials, including third Vice‑President and Environment Minister Sara Aagesen (July 6) for the Tubos Reunidos rescue, DAO of the Guardia Civil Manuel Llamas, Tax Agency director Soledad Fernández, and PSOE president Cristina Narbona, indicating the commission’s work will continue through the summer.
