Ghana adds modern maternity block in Keta and NICU in Tarkwa
The MTN Ghana Foundation has completed a 60‑bed Maternity and Child Health Block at Keta Municipal Hospital in the Volta Region. The new facility, described as state‑of‑the‑art, has increased antenatal attendance from 8,641 in 2022 to over 10,000 in 2025 and boosted maternity admissions, providing a modern, patient‑friendly environment for mothers and newborns.
AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine has commissioned a US$1.1 million, 60‑bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Tarkwa Municipal Hospital in the Western Region. The NICU replaces an overcrowded makeshift room that previously treated about 80 critically ill infants each month, aiming to cut neonatal mortality that is more than double the national target.
Both projects are part of corporate‑social‑responsibility efforts to strengthen Ghana’s health infrastructure and improve outcomes for mothers and newborns in underserved regions.
