Ghana advances green economy through vocational training and horticulture initiatives

Ghana is advancing its green economy through new educational and commercial initiatives. The Ghana TVET Service, in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO), has launched the Green TVET Initiative. This program aims to integrate climate resilience, sustainable innovation, and green skills into technical and vocational education to prepare the workforce for emerging industries such as renewable energy and sustainable agriculture.

A key component involves training educators, including principals and facilitators, in climate-smart technologies and environmentally responsible teaching practices. This training is intended to ensure students acquire the practical competencies necessary for the evolving global labor market.

Complementing these educational efforts, the 14th Ghana Garden and Flower Show is scheduled for September 2026 in Accra. Organized by Stratcomm Africa, the event will focus on the theme ‘Green Means Business, Beauty and More.’ The show aims to highlight the economic potential of the horticulture, landscaping, and floriculture sectors, offering masterclasses and conferences to promote green entrepreneurship and job creation for young people.
