Ghana and Columbus sign MoU for nursing partnership programme

The Government of Ghana and the City of Columbus, Ohio, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch the Ghana-Columbus Nursing Partnership Programme. The initiative is designed to strengthen nursing education, workforce development, and establish formal, legal employment pathways for qualified Ghanaian nurses to enter the healthcare sector in Columbus.

Signed by Columbus Mayor Andrew J. Ginther and Ghanaian Ministers Kwabena Mintah Akandoh (Health) and Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum (Labour, Jobs and Employment), the agreement builds upon a 2015 Sister-City relationship between Columbus and the Greater Accra Region. Beyond recruitment, the partnership aims to facilitate knowledge exchange, joint research, and health innovation between medical professionals and institutions in both nations.

Minister Akandoh emphasized that the framework is intended to protect the rights, welfare, and professional interests of Ghanaian health workers in accordance with international standards and Ghana’s Migration Policy. The program seeks to provide credible international employment opportunities while promoting mutual skills transfer and improved global patient health outcomes.
