Ghana and EU commit to deeper trade, investment and security cooperation
The annual Ghana‑EU Partnership Dialogue held on 11 June 2026 marked the 50th anniversary of the EU’s presence in Ghana. President John Dramani Mahama and EU ambassadors gathered to set the next phase of cooperation.
Mahama urged a shift from traditional aid to "trade, investment, innovation and industrialisation", highlighting the 24‑hour economy plan, a new Cocoa Bill that would guarantee farmers 70 % of the world price, and Ghana’s role as a gateway to the African Continental Free Trade Area.
The EU, Ghana’s largest trading partner and source of foreign direct investment, reaffirmed support through its Global Gateway strategy, including a €100 million contribution to the recently‑signed Security and Defence Partnership aimed at counter‑extremism, organized crime and other security challenges.
