Ghana and Nigeria roll out digital training programmes for youth and rural women

Ghana Digital Centres and the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) signed a memorandum of understanding to train 2,000 Ghanaian youths in digital skills. The eight‑month IT Micro Degree Programme, certified by Microsoft, will include practical industry exposure, with 600 trainees slated for paid internships. YEA chief Malik Basintale said, “The tech space is a very diversified space and even today the richest man in the world is a tech man, and that should tell you how beneficial the tech industry is to our development.”

In Nigeria, the Youths Enterprise Development and Innovation Society (YEDIS) launched an AI‑driven initiative for rural women agro‑food processors in Osun State and other parts of the South‑West. Recognised by the United Nations Office for South‑South Cooperation’s South‑South Galaxy Platform, the programme equips women with digital literacy and artificial‑intelligence skills to boost productivity, market access and food security. Founder Rafiu Olaore noted, “The recognition by the United Nations Office for South‑South Cooperation reinforces our belief that locally designed and community‑driven solutions can contribute meaningfully to global development priorities.” Partners include the World Bank Group, the British Council and Osun State Polytechnic.
