Ghana and US Virgin Islands to sign agreement for healthcare and education staff

Ghana and the United States Virgin Islands have reached an agreement to establish a bilateral recruitment framework to address critical staffing shortages in the territory’s healthcare and education sectors. A formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is expected to be signed in Ghana this November.

A high-level Ghanaian delegation, including representatives from the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Job Creation and the Office of the President, met with US Virgin Islands officials at Government House on St. Thomas to discuss the initiative. The partnership aims to deploy qualified Ghanaian nurses and teachers to fill vacancies that have been difficult to staff locally.

The agreement supports Governor Albert Bryan Jr.’s efforts to strengthen the territory's workforce while providing international employment opportunities for Ghanaian professionals. This move aligns with Ghana’s broader strategy to expand international labor partnerships through initiatives like the Ghana Labour Exchange Programme.
