Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has officially assumed office as Ghana’s Minister of Defence, succeeding acting minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson. Adjei’s appointment follows a period of transition after the death of former minister Edward Omane Boamah and seven others in a helicopter crash.

Upon taking office, Adjei pledged to implement a technology-led defense posture to address increasingly complex security threats. He identified several critical challenges facing the nation, including violent extremism, terrorism, maritime insecurity, cyber threats, and potential instability spilling over from the Sahel region.

To modernize the Ghana Armed Forces, Adjei emphasized that efforts must extend beyond acquiring new equipment to include investments in personnel welfare, maintenance, logistics, and the integration of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and unmanned systems. He also called for enhanced cooperation between national security agencies and international partners.
