Ghana Armed Forces provides flood relief to 297 personnel

The Ghana Armed Forces, in partnership with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), presented relief items and cash assistance to 297 military personnel and civilian staff whose homes were damaged by the June 29 floods across Accra and other parts of Ghana. The ceremony took place at the Nicholson Sports Stadium in Burma Camp and was led by Chief of the Defence Staff Lieutenant General William Agyapong.

Beneficiaries received household supplies such as rice, cooking oil, mattresses, blankets, soaps, mosquito nets, as well as an undisclosed amount of money. Agyapong highlighted the Armed Forces' commitment to the welfare of its members, noted the support of President John Dramani Mahama and Defence Minister Cassiel Ato Forson, and announced the establishment of counselling services at military hospitals. He also urged personnel to adopt better environmental sanitation practices and reaffirmed plans to accelerate redevelopment of Burma Camp to provide safer accommodation for staff.
