Ghana begins Phase Three of Appiatse redevelopment project
The Government of Ghana has officially commenced the third phase of the Appiatse Redevelopment Project in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality. Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, performed the sod-cutting ceremony to begin construction on 69 new housing units.
This phase aims to resettle the remaining households that have been living in a temporary relief camp for the past four years. The camp has been characterized by poor conditions, including inadequate accommodation and limited access to potable water. The new housing units will range from one-bedroom to six-bedroom homes, designed to be safer, greener, and more resilient based on feedback from the affected residents.
Previous stages of the project included the delivery of 124 housing units under Phase One and compensation for 50 households under Phase Two. Minister Buah emphasized the need for quality construction and accountability, urging contractors and technical teams to ensure the structures serve as lasting homes for the displaced families.
