Ghana Cocoa Board raises cocoa producer price for 2026/27 season
The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has announced a new producer price for the 2026/27 cocoa season, setting the rate at GH¢42,400 per tonne. This represents a 2.4 percent increase from the previous rate of GH¢41,392 per tonne. COCOBOD Chief Executive Dr. Randy Abbey stated that the new price accounts for 71.18 percent of the realized Free-On-Board (FOB) value, which is set at US$2,650 per tonne.
The pricing adjustment follows the passage of the Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 2026, which mandates that farmers receive at least 70 percent of the gross FOB price. The board is also working to modernize financing for annual crop purchases to reduce reliance on international syndicated loans.
However, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has challenged the decision, arguing that the price of GH¢2,650 per 64-kilogramme bag is insufficient. The NPP claims the increase of only GH¢63 per bag does not meet legal requirements and has called for greater transparency regarding the calculations used to determine the final price.
