Ghana expands energy sector through infrastructure and new oil agreements

Ghana is advancing its energy sector through new midstream infrastructure projects and strategic exploration agreements. At Africa Oil Week 2026, Ghana Gas unveiled a growth plan focused on five priority infrastructure projects. These include the Takoradi-Tema Pipeline and the addition of a third unit to the Mainline Compressor Station, aimed at expanding system capacity and securing supply routes.

Additionally, Ghana has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shell Holdings Limited, Chevron Sub-Saharan Africa Ventures Ltd., and GNPC Exploration and Production Limited. This agreement targets exploration and production rights in the South Deepwater Tano Cape Three Points Block. Industry experts suggest these partnerships could significantly increase national oil and gas production, supporting industrialization and job creation over the next several years.
