Ghana Flood Death Toll Rises to 34, Over 89,000 Displaced

Severe flooding across Ghana early in July 2026 has left at least 34 people dead, according to officials. Richard Amo Yartey, director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), said 12 fatalities have been confirmed in the capital Accra, while authorities continue to verify missing‑person reports and the death count could rise.

The disaster has affected seven regions, forcing a total of 89,736 people to flee their homes. Greater Accra accounts for the largest share of displaced residents at 54,712, followed by the Central Region with 21,882. Thousands more are affected in Volta, Western, Ashanti and Western North, while the Eastern Region reports fewer evacuees. Emergency teams remain engaged in search‑and‑rescue operations and aid distribution is ongoing.

Officials warned that the casualty figures may increase as recovery efforts proceed.
