Ghana Football Association appoints interim team for Black Stars
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that an interim technical team will lead the Black Stars for their upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Somalia in November. This decision follows the departure of head coach Carlos Queiroz on October 1, after Ghana suffered losses to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, leaving the team at the bottom of Group C.
The interim team is tasked with managing preparations, player monitoring, and ensuring a smooth transition once a permanent head coach is appointed. To facilitate a thorough recruitment process, the GFA has extended the application deadline for the vacant head coach position to October 15, 2026.
A five-member search committee, chaired by former GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe, will continue evaluating and interviewing candidates through October and November. The committee aims to select a successor based on technical ability, leadership, and cultural suitability.
