Black Stars search for new coach following Queiroz exit

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation are searching for a new head coach for the Black Stars following the departure of Carlos Queiroz. A five-member technical search committee, chaired by Fred Pappoe and including members such as Stephen Appiah and Anthony Baffoe, is expected to submit its recommendations by October 9, 2026.

Due to the ongoing search, the committee is expected to recommend an interim coach to lead the national team during a double-header of 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Somalia in November. These matches are scheduled to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Queiroz’s exit followed a difficult start to the Group C qualifying campaign, which included losses to Côte d'Ivoire and The Gambia. The GFA has noted that inadequate football infrastructure and the lack of a dedicated training facility for the national team were significant factors influencing Queiroz’s decision to leave his role.
