Ghana Football Association faces leadership and match-fixing scrutiny

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is facing scrutiny regarding its leadership and the integrity of the sport. Former GFA vice-president George Afriyie has criticized current president Kurt Okraku, labeling him as ‘underperforming’ and claiming he has failed to meet the standards set by his predecessor, Kwesi Nyantakyi. Afriyie argued that Nyantakyi’s 13-year tenure remains the benchmark for successful football administration in Ghana.

Separately, GFA Director of Communication Henry Asante Twum addressed concerns raised by President John Mahama regarding match-fixing and poor refereeing. While acknowledging the gravity of these issues, Twum stated that ‘no football association in the world can completely curb the issue of match-fixing on its own.’ He noted that the GFA has implemented various solutions over the last several years to address these systemic challenges.
