Ghana Football Association launches new Colts football season
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has launched the 2026/27 Colts Football season, marking the sixth consecutive year since the association revived the grassroots system in 2020. GFA President Kurt Okraku stated that the association aims to build a sustainable structure providing quality coaching and clear pathways to elite football, noting that there are currently 859 active Colts clubs across Ghana’s ten football regions.
Okraku noted that recent comments from President John Dramani Mahama regarding the importance of reviving the Colts League validate the GFA’s ongoing efforts to fix the fundamentals of the sport. The President had previously questioned the status of the league and expressed concern regarding the early departure of young players to foreign clubs.
Additionally, the GFA has responded to President Mahama’s criticisms concerning the standard of officiating in domestic football. GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum stated that the association does not view the President’s remarks as an attack, but rather as motivation to review and improve refereeing standards and the broader football ecosystem.
