Ghana Football Association revives Colts grassroots programme

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has launched the 2026/27 Colts Football Season as part of a renewed effort to revive the nation's grassroots football system. The program currently includes 859 active clubs across the country.

Former Black Stars winger Yaw Preko, a former product of the Colts system, has expressed his support for the initiative. Preko emphasized that strengthening grassroots football is essential for unearthing the next generation of national team stars, stating, “If the roots are strong enough, we’ll get future stars to represent us.”

The revival follows a call from President John Mahama to restore the traditional Colts League. The GFA is investing in coaching, competitions, and player development to create a structured pathway from community-level football to professional clubs and national teams.
