Ghana football prepares for 2026/27 season kickoff

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is finalizing preparations for the 2026/27 domestic football season through various league announcements and official assessments.

As a ceremonial curtain-raiser, the 2026 Champion of Champions will take place on August 30 at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa. The match will feature Medeama SC, the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League champions, against Nations FC, the MTN FA Cup winners.

In preparation for the upcoming campaigns, the GFA has released the schedule for the 2026/27 Division One League. The competition is set to run from September 18, 2026, to May 24, 2027, across three zones. The league will include 10 newly promoted clubs competing for spots in the Ghana Premier League.

Additionally, match officials from Ghana’s Southern Sector have undergone mandatory fitness and technical assessments in Koforidua. These tests, which include speed and endurance evaluations, are part of a nationwide program to ensure referees meet the required professional standards for the new season.
