Ghana Football Association forms committee to find new Black Stars coach
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has established a five-member committee to select a new head coach for the Black Stars following the departure of Carlos Queiroz. The search committee, chaired by Fred Pappoe, includes former captain Stephen Appiah, Tony Baffoe, Faisal Chibsah, and Agbesi Dzakpasu.
The coaching vacancy follows a difficult start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign, where Ghana sits at the bottom of Group C after losses to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia. This performance has led to calls for structural reforms within the GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
Various figures have weighed in on the search. Former player Dwight Yorke has expressed interest in the position, while former youth coach Karim Zito has advocated for the appointment of local coaches to reduce financial burdens. Other commentators, including Mohammed Polo and Ignatius Osei Fosu, have emphasized the need for a leader capable of inspiring players and providing technical value rather than just tactical instruction.
