Ghana Foreign Ministry demands evidence over JoyNews payment allegations
The Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formally requested that JoyNews provide evidence to support allegations of financial discrepancies regarding the South Africa evacuation exercise. The Ministry is seeking names and contact details of evacuees who claim they received less than the announced GH¢5,500 reintegration and transportation allowance.
The request follows reports by JoyNews alleging that some evacuees received only GH¢2,000, while others were denied the GH¢500 transportation component. Additionally, the media organization flagged suspected forged signatures on payment acknowledgement records within the Ministry’s data.
The Ministry described these claims as serious, noting they could impact the integrity of the disbursement process and the reputation of the officers involved. While the Ministry maintained that the packages were publicly announced and that no official complaints had been filed prior to these reports, it stated that clarification is necessary given the emergence of these allegations five months after the exercise concluded.
