Ghana Forestry Commission arrests 12 illegal miners in Bosomtwe Forest Reserve
Twelve suspected illegal miners were arrested after a two‑day anti‑galamsey operation by the Bekwai Forest District of Ghana's Forestry Commission in the Bosomtwe Range Forest Reserve, Ashanti Region. The enforcement team immobilised an excavator, a tricycle, seven Changfan machines, 21 water‑pumping machines, two power plants, two generators and an air blower used for illegal mining.
The suspects – identified by name – were arraigned before the Bekwai Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Isaac Apeatu, and remanded into police custody pending a hearing on 11‑12 August 2026. The Forestry Commission said a suspected kingpin, Abena Ahenkan, escaped during the raid and remains at large.
